Loving Hearts Meals
We work to provide healthy and appealing menus that not only please the children, but parents as well. Our goal is to offer a variety and moderation for balanced nutrition in our care setting. Our menus include at least 2 whole grain items every day, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and extremely limited added sugars. Our lunch is catered in by Hyvee every day. Breakfast and snacks are made in our kitchen and include lots of healthy homemade items instead of heavily processed items.
We also practice family style food service. In this practice, as soon as children are developmentally ready, they are able to serve themselves and pass serving bowls and trays around the table to their friends. This ensures that children are able to listen to their body’s hunger cues. If they are full, they are not pressured to finish the food on their plate. Or if they are still hungry, they have the option to take more out of the bowl. Teachers are trained to talk positively about the healthy food we provide and they even eat alongside the children. Children are never forced to try anything but we find that after many positive exposures, they are more willing to try without any coaxing! Here are Loving Hearts we are setting children up for a lifetime of healthy eating.
